How the New Cosmetic Product, Jeuveau, will Perform in the Thriving Botox Industry

Just like the tattoo industry, the Botox industry will continue to thrive as long as humans want to improve their looks and self-esteem. But there’s a new product in town. Evolus’s Jeuveau prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs is said to work wonders on severe frown lines, and at a much cheaper rate than Botox. Is Botox in trouble? Will people make the switch to Jeuveau? Experts say—maybe not just yet.

More about this FDA-approved Botox competitor for severe glabellar lines

As of February 1, 2019, after many clinical trials, Jeuveau is the only neurotoxin approved for use in the US whose purposes are specifically aesthetic in nature. It has been approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines.

So far, its advantages include up to a 30% lower projected cost compared to traditional Botox, and its disadvantages include a relatively short result period (3-4 months).

How long does Jeuveau last?

Patients who elect to receive this treatment should start seeing results ten days after receiving treatment, and these results should last between three and four months.

Remember, this is a temporary treatment, so it will require multiple sessions of the patient wants to see continued results.

What to expect during a Jeuveau treatment session

This treatment is administered during a short appointment with your dermatologist or another skincare specialist.

It does not require anesthesia. Your specialist will make several injections into the muscles that are causing your wrinkles to occur.

How does Jeuveau work?

It works by preventing communication between the body’s nerves and the muscles that cause wrinkles. This blocked communication causes the skin to appear more naturally relaxed.

What to expect immediately after receiving a Jeuveau treatment

Unless your skin shows immediate complications and/or an allergic reaction, there won’t be any downtime after receiving this treatment.

Typically, there will be a bit of discomfort and redness around the injection sites. This is to be expected and should resolve in a day. It could even resolve on its own within a few hours of receiving your treatment.

When it comes to aftercare, each dermatologic specialist is different, but it’s best to avoid contact with the injection sites to reduce the risk of spreading the product. You’ll likely also be advised to avoid exercise for a certain amount of time afterward to avoid complications.

What are the potential complications and side effects of Jeuveau?

Just like other popular line reduction treatments including Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, this treatment is FDA-approved, and widely considered to be safe.

But with that being said, there are always risks associated with any procedure. Speak with your doctor first about any potential allergies and about any side effects you’ve experienced in the past.

You could experience swelling, bruising, redness, and headaches. If these persist for days after treatment, speak with your doctor.

If you experience any other symptoms, speak with your doctor as soon as possible.

Considering Botox or another similar skin treatment for lines and wrinkles?

Schedule a consultation with a professional medical spa or office in order to figure out what is right for your needs. Places that offer Botox, dermal fillers, Kybella, and micro-needling, among many other products and procedures can all help in the anti-aging process.

If you’re concerned about your skin or have any questions about a potential skincare treatment, speak with an experienced specialist. Together, you can decide which treatment is right for you and your unique skin.
